Gugothandayo Village is home to 3,200 people and remotely located in the Kwazulu-Natal of South Africa. The entire community was living without access to clean water. Women and young girls would walk 20.0km multiple times a day to collect water from a contaminated stream. The water source runs dry in the dry season, forcing the community to wait for hours or search for other water sources. Consuming the water from the existing water sources inflicted waterborne illnesses. With the generous suppo
...rt from Kirsh Foundation, in Nov 18, 2021, Innovation: Africa installed a solar water pumping system in Gugothandayo Village, significantly improving the lives of Gugothandayo Village’s population. Children have returned to school to receive an education. Women are growing gardens, providing food security and cooking safely. Families are washing their hands, improving general sanitation and thus becoming healthier. We now see a community developing, growing and enjoying increased opportunity.

Newline Village, in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa, is home to 4,160 people who were dependent on unsafe and contaminated sources of water for their everyday basic needs. The Loewenstein Trust understood the severity of the situation in the village, and generously donated a solar water pumping system providing the village with clean water and a chance at a happier and healthier life. The system includes a 10-meter and 3-meter tower housing the solar-powered pump, and two 10,000 litre wa
...ter tanks. The system is connected to a borehole 54 meters deep, and is monitored remotely by an Israeli designed system that sends alerts should the system encounter any issues. The project employed 10 locals from the village in its construction, helping boost the local economy and counter the high unemployment rate. Thanks to The Loewenstein Trust, Newline Village residents will never have to drink contaminated water again!

Justicia Newstands Village, located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, is home to 2,800 people who were previously reliant on a contaminated open source for their water needs. This dirty water caused a multitude of waterborne diseases among the community members, and due to the long distances required to fetch water, a woman's day would be all-consumed by this activity. Thankfully, in December of 2020, Innovation: Africa finished installing a solar water pumping system at Justicia News
...tands, therefore ensuring the community access to clean water and thus changing their lives for the better. Now, a ten and three meter water tower and numerous taps can be seen around the village connected to a borehole 60m deep in the ground. The community has vowed to keep their project safe so their children will never consume dirty water again.

Jerusalem Village in rural Mpumalanga is home to 2,580 community members who previously struggled severely with water security. Before Innovation: Africa stepped in, the community was dependent on an unreliable and contaminated well as their main source of water and the women were required to wait hours in line just to collect dirty and unsafe water. Now, they are free of this burden because of the easy access to an abundance of fresh, clean water. This solar water project was completed in June
...of 2020 and provided the village with a 3 and 10 meter structure, and 10 communal water taps.
As in every iASA project, 5 men and 5 women from the community were chosen in a fair process of hiring to work on the construction of the project. In Jerusalem, each temporary employee was awarded a certificate of completion stating their new skills obtained to hopefully help them with future employment opportunities.

Consuming the water led waterborne illnesses and severe symptoms, including diarrhea, and was prevalent throughout the community. In June 2019, thousands of lives were changed when Innovation: Afric
...a installed a solar water pumping system in Matwikareng Village. A borehole was drilled 98 metres into the ground to reach a sustainable aquifer, and a 10-metre water tower and 3-metre water tower were built, each supporting a 10,000-liter water tank. The presence of clean water has transformed the community! Matwikareng Village is now experiencing improved sanitation and hygiene, waterborne diseases have been reduced significantly, handwashing has become a common practice, children have been able to return to school, and economic developments have begun.

Vlakfontein B Village is located in the Limpopo District and it is home to 3,496 people. The entire community shares one water source that is located 35 kilometers away from the village. The water source, a well, is contaminated and therefore causes community members to fall ill (specifically with diarrhea). Due to the far distance to the water source, women and children spend their entire days fetching water. In September of 2020, Innovation: Africa installed a solar water pumping system bringi
